Canned Film Festival

Tomorrow night (Thursday 9/28), for the admission price of three cans of food, you can see any movie at the Regal Cinemas here in town on NW 9th Street or in Albany. Except the "starred attractions," which means you can't see anything new. Which rules out two (out of four) of the movies at the Regal here in Corvallis, although one of them is the Jackass sequel, so that may be a blessing.

Come to think of it, there really isn't much playing these days, at least not at the typical cineplexes with their $4 bottles of water and $6 nachos. But here in Corvallis, we always have the option of going to the Darkside Cinema (and hopefully the Avalon Theater will reopen soon).

You can dig out three cans of pork and beans from your cupboard and watch something called the Gridiron Gang, or you can just give those three cans away to any number of food drives coming up for the fall season and just go ahead and pay $5 or $7 to see An Inconvenient Truth, or even better... Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas on the big screen. Plus, the lovely folks at Darkside will let you bring in your own bottles of water and nachos, as long as you take care of the trash properly. Most people seem to be fairly conscientious, at least from the relatively stick-free floors. (You should still buy their popcorn or something, though. These theaters are labors of love, not charity work.)

Oops. Sorry, Regal. Here I thought I was plugging the canned food drive, but I'd really just rather plug Darkside again.

Yeah, well you know. Its easier to be seen as trendily progressive in supporting the local "alternative" business over having enough tact & graciousness to simply aknowledge the evil corporate entity in any manner.

  • Harry? Do you have anything to contribute, or are you simply going to keep making little anti-liberal digs based on false assumptions? I have nothing against Regal Cinemas. Or do you really believe that all liberals think alike?

So... either come up with something interesting and relevant to say, or write your own blog. If the only comments you have are ignorant insults, you can save your energy for something else.

  • Man, that hurts. I so want to contribute! I want to be both interesting and relevant to your blog and I think I can do that by being different.

For starters, I figure I can provide for your readers an entirely different viewpoint than most of you are familiar with. I mean, certainly, not all liberals think alike, yet its still all slightly different varieties of the same ideology, a liberal hegemony, if you will. Im sure you're open to all viewpoints including mine.

If I had gotten the feel of your original post wrong, by all means correct me.

I was just wondering. How was it you started a post about Regal Cinemas running a can drive program, dismissed the value of that program halfway through, suggesting instead, an alternative for what movie theater people should go to and what to do with their cans, finally, lamely admitting that that you "really just rather plug Darkside again."

What was that about? Was that supposed to be a favorable endorsement of the can drive? Cause it certainly doesnt sound like it, yet why even bother writing about it at all, if you thought it was a waste of time?

From my viewpoint, the whole post seemed a disrespectful dismissal of the can drive in favor of reestablishing your political trendiness among the masses.

Of course, Im sure I got that entirely wrong dont I?

But you gotta admit, I am different.

  • You are wrong. I genuinely like the Darkside, as I admire pretty much any small business owner who finds a niche and fills it. Don't most conservatives decry the lack of respect for small business owners? So is it just the movies at Darkside you don't like, or do you just think, "Aw, liberals go there, I'm not goin'."

Anyway, Regal's canned food drive would be admirable if there was a single movie worth watching there. Or do you actually have a desire to see Jackass 2? If you want to consider it a slam against anyone, it's a slam against the idiots making dumb movies these days, not Regal. But Regal exacerbates the problem by actually showing the movies.

Whatever... if you want to target a "liberal" blog, please do it elsewhere. You haven't done anything but attack straw men since you've started posting, and I have better things to do than play He Said, She Said with you. Have a nice day.
